OUr Charter

 
We have a dual focus on personal development and social impact 

 Members commit to:
 
  1.    Demonstrating, measuring and continually improving our social action programmes in terms of both personal development and social impact outcomes.
 
  We will publicly report both our impact on individual young people, and our impact on a specified social benefit.
 
  2.    Giving young people opportunities to develop necessary social action skills, and reporting impact in terms of individual outcomes – including:
 
  a.    Communication
  b.    Creativity
  c.    Confidence and Agency
  d.    Planning and Problem Solving
  e.    Resilience
  f.     Leadership
  g.    Relationship skills
  h.    Emotional intelligence

We will report on social action learning for young people, and the outcomes we achieve with respect to skill development.

  3.    Providing young people opportunities to serve others so as to create social benefits; this can mean tackling a specified social problem, or adding value in a specified area of social consequence. As much as possible, we will try to distinguish individual outcomes from social impacts in order to demonstrate the double benefit. Generation Change is cause agnostic, but excludes: directly religious causes and party political campaigning. Suggested examples include:
 
  a.    Homelessness
  b.    Progression into employment
  c.    Educational outcomes
  d.    Community cohesion
  e.    Civic engagement
  f.     Sustainability
  g.    Wellbeing / mental health
 
We will report the intended social benefits of our young people’s activities, and the outcomes we achieve measured in a suitable way.


 
We place empathy at the heart of youth social action 

 Members commit to:
 
  4.       Increasing the capacity of individual volunteers to relate to their beneficiaries, to develop a character of responsibility and compassion, and an ability to articulate a critical understanding of their role in building a good society.
 
  We will report on the development of empathy in young people.
 

 
We are driven by high quality programme design  

Members commit to:
 
  5.    Ensuring that all social action is structured and based on principles shared across the sector. Youth social action should be:
 
  a.    Challenging: stretching and engaging as well as exciting and enjoyable.
  b.    Youth-led: led, owned and shaped by young people.
  c.    Socially Impactful: creating positive social change that is of benefit to the wider community as well as to the young people themselves.
  d.    Progressive: progressing to other programmes and activities.
  e.    Embedded: becoming the norm in a young person’s journey towards adulthood and a habit for life.
  f.     Reflective: valuing reflection, recognition and reward.
 
  We will report on how our programmes meet these 6 principles.
 
  6.    Working with other Generation Change organisations to develop shared sector standards that young people and external organisations can use to recognise the value of youth social action opportunities.
 
  We will contribute to initiatives aimed at developing shared standards of practice.
 


We are working together to boost our collective impact 

Members commit to:
 
  7.    Enabling young people to deepen their engagement in social action across time.
 
  We will actively promote other social action opportunities, where they are relevant to the young people we work with, free of charge.
 
  8.    Collaborating with each other to enhance young peoples’ engagement in social action and build our own organisational capacity.
 
  We will report our collaborative initiatives publicly.
